In 1963, after they had sold their patisserie in Berlin due to the political turmoil, Mr and Mrs Gustav Mannstedt followed their family to the island of Sylt. This was when the Café Berlin and then, later, the Hotel Berlin came to be. In 1994 Marion Lorenz bought the hotel and invited her guests to come in and take a deep, relaxing breath. It took 20 years of constant renovations and investments to keep it up to the best modern standards, and she added a personal touch to the house. In 2013, her son Tim, an hotelier heart and soul, assumed his new role as the manager and host of the family-owned house.
